Today announced a new software tool and interfaces which complete Transdesign, the company's design solution for automating vehicle-level electrical system design.Developed in cooperation with leading automotive engineers, the company said that these new tools cover the design of an entire electrical system, from concept to manufacturing support. It enables manufacturers design electrical harness systems and packaging details concurrently, using a complementary mechanical design (3D) environment."Until now, the automotive industry's electrical system design community had to depend on point tools to reach the final wiring harness definition of their vehicles," said Enrique Ortega, Innoveda's vice president of electromechanical design. "For the first time, an enterprise can develop a fully characterized design from logical interconnection to

a complete set of wiring harness definitions. The resulting design captures every cost-contributing element of the harnesses with data that can directly populate a harness-manufacturing bill of materials." Innoveda's new Transharness tool uses the fundamental wire, bundle, and connector information from Translayout on a harness-by-harness basis, enabling users to fully define manufacturable harnesses. Face connector views are generated automatically, using Translayout (its tool for auto routing and wire synthesis of a vehicle's complete electrical system)information. Routing and retention devices and harness coverings can be added and edited to complete the harness definition. Using these tools, the company said, designers can generate Computer Graphics Metafiles (CGM) views of logical or physical schematics (Transcable), vehicle level harness topology (Translayout), and harness topology including face connector views, mechanical supports and dressings (Transharness). These views enable designers to make design data available to a variety of users through the use of Internet browsers. Transdesign is custom-configurable depending on user requirements and is available immediately. Pricing starts at approximately U.S. $80,000 for the entire solution. The Transharness tool is priced at U.S. $20,000, and each CGM interface is priced at U.S. $5,000.
